Who can wake up in the morning and start their day with out a little boost from our friend CAFFEINE ?! I know I can't. Especially since I've turned 27. This past year I found myself drinking an abundant amount of coffee just to kick start my day, followed by an afternoon cup of red rooibos tea.
I used to spend anywhere from $4-5 dollars a day - $25 dollars a week, and $100 a month MINIMUM on Starbucks. I was having three issues here.
1 - Spending too much money on "brand" name coffee.
2- Having to leave the house early to make sure I had enough time to get this coffee
3- NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND A DAIRY ALTERNATIVE ANYWHERE OTHER THAN STARBUCKS.
.. Don't get me wrong there are wonderful places like Blenz, and Cafe Artigiano in the Vancouver area of Canada that supply dairy alternatives, but these coffee places are sporadically placed and there are zero on my way or near my place of work. Tim Hortons is literally everywhere but they have YET to jump on the dairy free train. The dairy free train, conducted by all us lovely people who CANNOT eat dairy who are screaming out for change!!
.. A few months ago I found myself tired of screaming. My colleague had mentioned a type of creamer she was using for her coffee. Silk, Almond Vanilla!.. sounds like heaven doesn't it?! Well, it pretty much is let me tell you.
There's about 3 different varieties of the almond creamer at the moment. Made by Silk. Those are: Original, vanilla and hazelnut. Both the vanilla and the hazelnut are lightly sweetened - some people will argue they heavily sweetened, but I quite like my coffee very sweet! I've added a photo of what the product looks like for identification purposes when you're walking down those grocery aisles. In most stores in Vancouver, this creamer is located in the dairy section surprisingly, but if you cannot locate it, I would see if your grocery store has already set up a vegan aisle as they would most likely be moved there. =) They seem to retail for $2.89-$2.99 (sometimes you can find a 2 for $5.00 deal which is pretty sweet!)
I figured I would also include the ingredients list for people like my mama who want to know absolutely everything they are putting in their bodies:
Almondmilk (Filtered Water, Almonds), Cane Sugar,Potassium Citrate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sunflower Lecithin, NaturalFlavor, Sea Salt, Gellan Gum.
So far, we've gotten a large part of the office on this creamer (with the help of my awesome colleague might I add! ... as well as my dad! Which, has been the biggest victory for me, considering he is a heavy cream in his coffee kind of guy.
So, my point is.. if you love coffee and tea and you're someone that likes to add a little but of milk or creamer and is looking to make a small change in their diet that will have long term health benefits, then this is the solution for you. I promise!
Thank you for reading, and always remember to stay positive and share the positive!
